EthBoy NFT Sets Record with $400,000 Sale
The famous NFT EthBoy, featuring an image of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, has been successfully sold on the secondary market for an impressive amount of $400,000. Created by artists Trevor Jones and Alotta Money a few years ago, EthBoy portrays Vitalik Buterin in the attire of a jester.
In November 2020, this digital artwork was sold for 260 ETH when the price of 1 ETH was approximately $540, according to CoinGecko data. Therefore, the buyer paid around $140,000 for the NFT at that time.
Three years later, collectors once again showed interest in EthBoy. The price for this NFT reached 200 ETH, which is approximately $400,000 at the time of writing. According to Etherscan data, the new owner of the NFT has decided to pay a 10% royalty. It will be distributed not only to the original artists but also to the first owner, MaxStealth, who acquired EthBoy in 2020.
It's worth noting that royalty payments on the OpenSea trading platform are not mandatory. The platform had previously announced its cancellation of the royalty feature, introducing a 0.5% commission instead. Following this announcement, the Rarible marketplace ceased support for OpenSea orders.
These events show the growing interest around the NFT market. Its trading volume reached its peak in November 2023. To learn more about NFTs check out our other articles: “Top 5 NFT Trends in 2023” and “How to understand the value of NFTs”.
