  • What is HyperSDK?
  • How does HyperSDK work?
  • How will it develop in the future?

Ava Labs has made the news recently with its new HyperSDK – a framework made for streamlining the creation of Virtual Machines. During tests, the blockchain showed incredible speed, showing the potential to become a game changer for developers.

This article explores the concept of this upgrade, and how it might help with building blockchains.

What is HyperSDK?

HyperSDK, developed by Ava Labs, is a cutting-edge framework tailored for constructing high-performance Virtual Machines (VMs) entirely from the ground up within the Avalanche (AVAX) ecosystem. Its task is to give developers a robust foundation for crafting new fast blockchains.

Seen as the pioneering framework of this kind, HyperSDK is organized to significantly speed up the time typically needed to construct a customized blockchain runtime.

It provides developers with seamless access to a high-speed execution environment, negating the necessity to construct difficult code. As a result, the development timeline can potentially be shortened from several months to weeks or even days.

Blockchains made via HyperSDK are called HyperChains. These HyperChains are versatile and adaptable, serving several functions ranging from hosting NFT marketplaces to facilitating DeFi protocols.

How does HyperSDK work?

At its essence, HyperSDK serves as a toolbox for blockchain development. It provides a comprehensive set of tools and pre-built components, streamlining some of the more time-consuming aspects of developing custom VMs on Avalanche.

When a developer decides to build a custom blockchain or DApp on Avalanche, they face a complex set of challenges. These include designing a VM, managing runtime complexities, and ensuring high-performance transaction processing. HyperSDK steps in to address these challenges.

HyperSDK abstracts away the common and often convoluted runtime complexities involved in blockchain development. This means that developers do not have to grapple with the nitty-gritty technical details of VM creation, allowing them to focus on tailoring the blockchain for their specific needs.

Moreover, HyperSDK is engineered to deliver exceptional performance. It optimizes the underlying architecture, ensuring that transactions are executed swiftly and efficiently. This is crucial for applications such as video games or financial systems, where rapid transaction processing is paramount.

Crucially, HyperSDK accelerates development timelines. Rather than having to write extensive code from scratch, developers can leverage the ready-made tools and components provided by the framework. This reduces the time required to create a custom blockchain runtime significantly.

The HyperChains are highly adaptable and can be tailored for various purposes. Developers have the freedom to innovate and bring their unique ideas to life.

HyperSDK is an open-source project: it promotes collaboration among the crypto-native developer community. This fosters experimentation and creativity.

How will it develop in the future?

Recently, HyperSDK achieved a speed of over 140,000 transactions per second on its testnet. While this number is highly impressive, especially compared to Ethereum’s approximate 20TPS and even Avalanche’s own 4,500TPS.

At the same time, we should not forget that this number is recorded on the testnet, and when presented with real-world problems, probably will not be as quick.

Despite calling the product “raw”, the team has high hopes for the HyperSDK and believes that its collaborative aspect will bring it success.

All in all, HyperSDK is a new project that seems to have a lot of potential for blockchain developers. If the process of VM creation is significantly enhanced, it might help with the development of Avalanche and the diversification of the projects built on it. As for the speed factor, only real-world application of the technology will show exactly how effective it is.
