The leading L1 blockchain network, Solana (SOL), successfully deployed the highly anticipated v1.16 update. This milestone is marked by a key feature – Confidential Transfers. The update came live after Solana's testnet seamlessly transitioned to the new version in June 2023. The information about the beta version of the mainnet was revealed in September this year.

The patch underwent a detailed audit by cybersecurity experts from Halborn. The development of the update took approximately ten months and was aimed at enhancing the stability and performance of the blockchain platform.

The main innovation introduced by the update is called Confidential Transfers. This feature ensures complete confidentiality in SPL token transfers due to the Token-2022 program. Built on the concept of zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), it allows hiding crucial transaction details, such as participants and transfer amounts. Along with this update, changes were made to the Command Line Interface (CLI), enabling the creation of new tokens with integrated ZKP.

Another significant achievement is the reduction in the amount of RAM used by validators. This move promises to enhance the platform's efficiency and simplify the transaction validation process for network participants.

The v1.16 update represents a significant step forward for Solana, solidifying its position as one of the most innovative and secure blockchain platforms in the world. Users and developers can now expect improved capabilities and enhanced confidentiality while working with this platform.
