  • Conclusion

2022 was the year that showed a slight decrease in global crypto adoption. This is not too surprising given how hard the year had been on the industry with the bear market and several shocking events. However, the interest in blockchain technology is strong as ever. In this article, we are going to look into some of the most unusual places that accept crypto.

Hoskinson Health & Wellness Clinic

The clinic which carries the name of Charles Hoskinson, the co-founder, and CEO of the Cardano network is to start operating in February 2023. The establishment is situated in Wyoming, United States and once opened, is going to provide a number of medical services, from mental health care to cancer screenings. And what makes the clinic truly unique is that ADA, the native token of Cardano, will be accepted there for payment.

Dating sites and apps

To the already extensive list of how crypto is making our lives better, we can now add help in finding love. Dating sites and apps like OkCupid, Badoo, and some others accept Bitcoin as a payment method. While using these sites is free, paid-for features allow users to enhance their search (for example, choose a city where they would like to search for a potential partner, have limitless likes, etc). These sites saw the opportunity relatively early, too: OkCupid started accepting Bitcoin in 2013.

Churches

Now people can also donate to churches using crypto. The Church of St. John the Evangelist which is situated in Goshen, New York was the first church to accept financial assistance this way. Starting in 2013, the establishment receives donations in Bitcoin and Litecoin. Some other churches started to do the same, for example, Fern Creek United Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, and the ICF Zurich evangelical church in Switzerland.

Sports games

Seems like sports teams and crypto companies found a way to benefit each other. For example, Litecoin became the official cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins in 2019. It means that the football team found a new sponsor and the token got new opportunities for branding and advertising. The team’s fans now can purchase tickets using LTC and BTC. Another example is the Dallas Mavericks, a basketball team that accepts Bitcoin payments for tickets to games and merchandise.

Movie theaters

AMC, a famous chain of movie theatres in the US, started accepting cryptocurrency in 2021. First, they allowed making online purchases using Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. In 2022, the company also introduced the opportunity to pay with Dogecoin and Shiba using their app. Another large company located in the UK – Regal Cinemas – did the same thing after partnering up with a digital payments company.

Funeral homes

Crescent Tide Funeral & Cremation, a funeral home in Minnesota started accepting BTC for payments back in 2017, the first in the US. Since then, some other death care providers followed in their footsteps. According to the company's CEO, for a long time, it sparked interest in the company, but it was not a popular payment method. However, he believes that the situation will be changing in the future.

Conclusion

With the adoption of crypto becoming more and more mainstream, soon we will probably be able to pay for anything and everything using cryptocurrencies. Despite the crypto winter, the interest in the sphere of blockchain does not go away, which we will probably continue to observe in the foreseeable future.
